I'd say 300 spartans.

Professional army wins against Tribal warfare pretty much every time. Thats why the romans kicked as much *** as they did(post marius reforms anyway).

It's not so much the numbers but the position.

A small number of well fortified defenders can hold off many times more attackers. There are hundreds of examples of this through out history and across many cultures.

But on even ground - the 300 Spartans, they had better arms/armour.
