You have installed two 512mb ram in your PC. Total RAM size is 1024 MB. 1024-786=256 means system is using 256mb for graphic. That's way it's showing it. Don’t worry, your PC is using full ram and both ram are fine. You can check in BIOS. If you know about BIOS configuration you can configure Ram size in Video memory option because you are using currently a video card.

You may be right.

To test your RAM sticks, remove the old one and move the new one to the first RAM slot and boot your PC. If you see all 512MB, the new stick is OK.

Then, add the original RAM stick to the second slot and boot. If you only get 768MB of RAM, it may be that RAM sticks aren't compatible with each other.

Return the new stick and try to buy more RAM that matches the brand name of the old one.

The rest 256 mb is shared with the video card of your mainboard dont have to get worried for this.

If u dont want that get an external AGP which has its inbuilt memory in it .

Maybe you have integrated video card or other device which use part of your memory. The missing part is 256MB so i believe it's a video card.
