The Jews overall couldn't believe that their promised Messiah was such a man as Jesus -- born to a carpenter. He was just a humble man to them -- an outcast. And the Jewish leaders were indeed threatened by him when he started telling people that he was the Son of God. (Moses and the prophets had told them that the Messiah would come and rule, and the Jewish leaders certainly didn't want to give up their spots!)

Dunno what you mean by 'star'.
It wasn't the 'Jews' that sent him to crucifixion, it was the Jewish hierarchy. Basically he was a threat to their established power.
