In this politically correct world, where spanking your child is now a crime, who thinks that possibly this might have been prevented by parental guidance? Not saying the man wasn't sick mentally, but does it stand to reason that if his parents could disipline him that this tragedy may not have happened?
I do realize the man was sick and still passed through a mental health check. But still,in this PC world,it makes me wonder if his A$$ got whooped like mine when I was a kid,if this would ever have happened.
Just FYI,I got my butt whooped as a kid,and now have a healthy relationship with both parents and my own family.I grew up somewhat resentful, but the lessons stayed.I knew right from wrong.I know that shooting at 65 people is wrong.I wonder if today's kids with all the PC crap will be the next aggressors.

Mate you are wrong. If the parenting is wrong it creates wreckless individuals not killers unless there is an element of abuse. You cant use simplistic logic to explain what has happened in VT.

It appears that what has triggered this killing spree was long term bullying and social ostracism (excuse the spelling if this is wrong) from fellow peers coupled with no emotional resources such as close friends or relatives to talk to about his problems.

No amount of smacking could have stopped this from happening in fact it would have made it worse. Some care and attention from his parents would have been a better solution.

Therefore before you make remarks like that have a little think about what you are saying, your life circumstances are probably different to his.

Your idea about discipline is amazing! For anyone to think that beating your children to teach them right from wrong is the way to stop a mass murder is all wrong! If anything it is exactly the opposite! You do it or I'll beat your a## turns into....You do it or I'll hit you with this stick which becomes.....You do it or I'll blow your brains out! We should teach and learn by example and not violent threats and behavior! My parents were old school and they did not spare the rod but neither did they beat my a##! I somehow learned right from wrong and I also raised three children of my own ( which I never laid a hand on ) and they also have never killed anyone! You can teach your children and they will learn with out the beatings and guess what? You will feel better about yourself as well!..........

Whipping would have made him worse, in my opinion.

He obviously was NOT lacking in self-discipline--a good student with hard work habits.

Love and acceptance was missing from his life, and getting bullied and teased by peers all the way through school in the US seems to be more of his problem, as it is for all the 'school shooters' so far.

Violence solves nothing; I raised my daughter with no shouting, no whippings and no emotional crippling, and she's a happy 26 year old well-adjusted, friendly med student with lots of friends, and an Ivy League grad.

Even mentally ill people are not necessarily violent; it takes a lot of abuse to create the monster this young man became, and whippings would have just caused him to buy his weapons and start shooting sooner.

i think it ought to help extremely it could evade a gunman from being waiting to get in ,or on the main purchase you effective time. one in each of my instructors in extreme college constantly locked her door, yet that replaced into because of the fact she didn’t like tardy pupils so as quickly as classification all started the door replaced into locked and any late pupils have been out of success. You wouldn’t be locking human beings into the lecture room, least a super form of the lecture room doors I extremely have considered purely lock from the exterior, yet you could turn the door from the interior and get out, you in ordinary terms wouldn’t be waiting to get lower back in till somebody opened the door for you. which will strengthen right into a disturbance at school if somebody has to arise and open the door for individuals in the event that they bypass to apply the restroom, ought to take an emergency telephone call etc.

I guess the first question is at what age did he start going goofy? at the age 5 or younger, than no, it would not have helped. If he went goofy in college, than it could have helped. It is hard to say.
