the media. The media spends soo much time highlighting the negatives that occur, the "smoggy cities", the "High crime cities", the people who cannot qualify for the "american dream" etc...
instead of all the press about the people that did make it..
Also people feel entitled these days..so they feel if "the share of the pie" is not being given to them that they somehow feel they are being shorted, thus bitterness.
there is no "WHO" to blame, the problem is everyone is responsible for the perception of how America is seen by the world b/c they are the people that make America what it is. no, it's NOT Dubya's fault, no it's NOT Clinton's fault etc..it is NOT the fault of any one person etc..it's everyones to squander away..and very few people really understand that..

People's prejudices filtered through the media. Whoever the media gives the most light to and in what way. Ex: Paris Hilton, Lindsey Lohan, and other iconic figures get more attention than the efforts of those who feed hungry, build homes, help others, give hope, etc. -That's not considered "front-page" material. Scandal, fame, gossip, and other shallow topics have more booming sales, thus being more likely to circulate...which equals people thinking that America is whatever it's portrayed to be. I'm not worried about where Sienna Miller got her latest handbag, but people who don't know real Americans might think that we all do.
