TV news stations would rather have something sensationalized out of someones pain and misery as news, than anything good. Feel-good stories don't help their ratings.

If NBC had just aired the video, pics and letters without turning them over to the FBI first that would of been yellow journalism. That video helps explain why the shooter did what he did. Before the release of the video, all people could do was speculate on the why. Now we know without a doubt the guy was evil. It isn't enough to say he was crazy, he planned this attack on innocents. His reason do not make sense to logical people but we can see his disjointed thought process and the authorities will be able to glean a lot from it. NBC waited for permission to air any of what they had and I congratulate them on that.

With the killer killing himself he left unanswered the question of why he did it. Now we, and the families know why. When you loose someone the question why can drive you crazy and prevent the healing process from beginning let alone completing. Now they have a why. Hopefully the healing process will begin for all those involved and for the nation.

If we can keep the focus on what happened and not make it a political issue perhaps we can all learn how to prevent it from happening in the future.

You are correct. A strong argument could be made not to show it at all. Even at that, as a news item show it once maybe twice but now they just keep showing over and over. Each time they allow this Cretan to victimize the affected families over and over. They are also granting him a kind of celebrity that other maniacs will follow.

What is going on in America, indeed!

Sara...unfortunately...blood, guts and gore are what the media is all about....if they can get it on the air quicker and with more gore and shock value...they win!

As for their 'ethics' in reporting....the moral fabric of this country hasn't just gotten thin....there are gaping holes in it now.

No-one in the media seems to understand the definition of Personal Responsibility. If they did....we would have media outlets that only report the facts....not their twisted version of it.

It is a touchy topic really. You bring up a good point about the family's that have lost someone, but I think it really showed what a psycho he really was and answered the question on so many American's minds of WHY.
