i have an athlon 1700 with a broken motherboard would a MS6167 athlon motherboard be compatible?

MSI 6167 motherboard is an old Slot A. It supports the Athlon K7 processor. More details here.

Now, with regard to the Athlon XP 1700+, this plugs in to a socket A motherboard. There are still plenty of good socket A motherboards around and they are cheap.

Unless you want bad things to happen I really recommend you get the manufacturer to tell you. By the way don't you mean the 1700 into the motherboard? But if you have a large pile of parts, give it a go.

I think it is time to upgrade... For the same money you could upgrade to a nice new combo like this:

This board is AGP so if you have an AGP card you can move it over. The best upgrade board however is this one:

But you would need a new CPU.
