Hi,

Since slope = (Y2 - Y1)/(X2 - X1), if we fill in your numbers we get:

-3/2 = ( (r - 5)/(6 - (-2))

This simplifies to:

_-3_..=.._r-5_
...2.............8 (dots are for spacing)

Now cross multiply this to get an equation to solve:

(-3)(8) = 2( r - 5)
-24 = 2r - 10
-14 = 2r
-7 = r

So -7 is your answer for r.

I hope that helps!! :-)

- (3/2) = (r - 5) / (6 + 2)
- (3/2) = (r - 5) / 8
- 12 = r - 5
r = - 7
