A lot of us aren't for weapons, but we fear the incompetence of our government to remove them completely from our country.
I mean look at how well the so called "War on Drugs" has gone!
We fear that if the government is as effective at ridding the country of guns as it is at drugs, then we will really be screwed!
I'm not sure of what you know about American gun laws, but a lot of the criminals who have them didn't acquire them from legally, nor do they have their firearms registered.
There are VERY harsh penalties for having an "illegal" gun, but the fact that there are so many people wandering around with guns is the exact reason why some people choose to own them.
I think that handguns should be illegal, because they were designed to kill people. Period.
I don't have a problem with larger, non-concealable guns simply because they actually have use for things other than people.
There are a great deal of hunters here, and they would never vote for a politician that would take away their guns. Besides that, I think that hunting is a legitimate use for them.
Sometimes I wonder what the global conception of buying guns in the United States is. They are obviously not sold directly to kids, criminals, and Texans as some might have you believe. But, on the other side of that, you can walk into a Wal-Mart, and buy a high powered rifle with hundreds of rounds of ammunition if you pass a background check. I once tried to buy a small .22 caliber rifle, but I was denied because I stole something when I was 16.
Having said that, it is easy to snap back to reality when you look at the statistics! America has the highest homicide rate of ANY developed country, and we rank only behind the worst of undeveloped countries.

Some people talk about that at times like these, but overall, statistics show that the states with the most freedom for fire-arms have the least violent crime. For example, if Any of those other students at Virginia Tech had been armed, how long would that killing spree have continued?
