No One's Outraged Anymore?...Why is that...?

Question

I have no doubt that like all the other tragedy in the US, that after a couple weeks, like Columbine, New Orleans, the press will move the VT story futher and further to the next page of news; and eventually, like all the others, no one willbe thinking about it.
People are sad. But whatever happened to OUTRAGE?
How come no one keeps the focus on fixing the problem.
Media sensalionism, is all it is.
Our newspaper, Wednesday, didn't even have any story on their front page about VT? Only one day later, the story is relagated to page 3? See. It'll disappear just like all those lives...Wake up law makers! Wake up citizens. You could be the next one murdered. And who will you blame then?

People find so many trivial things to be outraged about that they have seemed to loose their ability to be outraged. I am deeply saddened and very angry that all those innocent students and faculty were slaughtered.

I think that the main reason why no one is outraged anymore is because we have become desensitized to tragedy. The reason why we have become desensitized is because we keep hearing about tragedy after tragedy after tragedy. Unfortunately, tragedy seems to be all too commonplace nowadays, so it's now very hard to remain in a state of outrage or shock. I'm not saying that it's right, but that it's the way it is.

The media only reports what makes them money in some way. If people demanded more coverage or information on it, the media would provide it. Nobody dwells on tragedies because there is nothing they are willing to do about it to stop it from happening again. They make ridiculous claims and put some regulations in place, and then it gets forgotten about.

We live in a world culture that is desensitized to Violence. People shrug, and move on. Hollywood, The Media, Music, all add to this. Look at the Abortion debate. People have forgotten how to Live, Hope, and Love. Worse of all, we have forgotten about God, and His WORD.

we are bombarded with what happened in VT so much by the media it becomes meaningless to us a good song is great but if you hear it over and over and remixed and over again it is tedious and just means nothing to you anymore that is what the media does to our outrage we are and were aoutraged at the begining and maybe even shocked but we are starting to become numb with the repetition.
people in an animal shelter more than likely are the same way the first few animals or even years you have to put them to sleep you are heart broken but over time you feel nothing anymore.

I can't remember how many hundred people died in the last month in bombings in Iraq, but people are neither sad, nor outraged.

It's just that people have gotten used to it.

Thousands could die in car crashes. Nobody notices.
Millions could die in some African country and the western media couldn't care less.
A few people die in a violent crime.. and the press is screaming for weeks.

People are just getting used to this kind of thing.. that's all.

Sara , I don't expect everyone to agree on every issue , but have you had the chance to see what gun control does to a country ? Do a search of 'Australia Gun Ban' and you'll see that banning guns was disastrous for them in the 90's . They banned guns , gathered them together and burned them . Then , gun crimes sky-rocketed . In fact , armed robberies went up 44% in 1 year . Gun murders went up something like 3% countrywide , but in at least one province they went up 300% . All other gun related crimes went up as well . Criminals knew they couldn't be challenged or stopped if only criminals had guns .
The best proof of all of this is when they rescinded the ban . Gun crimes went down dramatically !! This is very solid and very recent comparable facts . This proves that it is people who are evil and not pieces of metal . Other countries who have tried similar measures have similar outcomes .
I realize your passion for stopping the killings , but it is the evil of man that is the real problem . We live in the most difficult times of world history . Nobody , including me , has the solution for man's evil. . . . except for one thing... . .GOD !!
The Lord spoke of these times in the Bible . He clearly states that AFTER Israel justly becomes a nation again(1948) that this generation shall not pass from the earth until the return of our Savior Jesus Christ . He also states that the world will be in a state of confusion just prior to his return . Brother will turn against brother . The Weather will be very tumultuous (destructive hurricanes, sunamis, global warming, etc .) . Earthquakes will increase and occur around the world(check any earthquake research. . . . earthquakes have been dramatically increasing over the last 100 years and even more so in the last 50) . There will be signs in the sun , the moon , and the stars(there are more solar flares and interruptions of communications because of this than ever before) The polar ice caps on Earth, Mars, and at least one other planet(can't remember which one, but it is in the news and easily referenced) are melting at alarming rates . And so on and so on . Much, much more which is happening right now . He also acknowledges that these times will be the most difficult for believers in Christ . Well, my gosh , Christianity is now under attack in monumental proportions . Radical Islamists think it's their duty to convert us or kill us . They've chopped-off the heads of non-Radical Islamists for not converting(also clearly stated in the Bible) . And again , much , much , more .
Some of the detractors will run to the excuse that many of these things have always existed . And that is true . But what they choose to ignore , or don't understand , is that the Lord clearly said " When you see ALL of these things happening.. . . . . . look up for your redemption draws nigh(in other words , when all of these things are happening at the SAME TIME , then look up because Jesus is coming back , very , very soon ) .
Despite all the fear encompassed in these words , the Lord says " Fear not" and to pray endlessly for your salvation , for all men fall short of the grace of God .
The Lord doesn't specifically mention Y/A , of course , but , He did say that many will get caught-up in the evil . Well my friend. .. . Does it take more than 10 minutes on these boards to witness the evil of man ?
He also says 'knowledge' will be increased dramatically . I offer to you the Internet as proof . Again proof that 'when you see ALL these things, at the same time. . . .'
He also says that the world will be looking for a 'Uniter' and that is when the Anti-Christ will appear and fool many . Again , when in history has the world been looking for a Uniter any more than right now . This is the PERFECT timing for the Anti-Christ to appear and the world is just begging for someone to come and solve all these problems, right now !
The Anti-Christ will come to power under the auspices of 'Peace' and 'Unification' . He will amaze the world with his message and the world will buy his story .
But , the Lord also says that wise men will know when these times are present and wise men will be able to detect the hidden agenda of this man . The Lord cautions us to be wary .
But again says to 'fear not, because your redemption draws nigh' .
Go ahead and try something . Tell people on here that you're a Christian in one of your questions. .. . . and then watch the HATRED pour in . Then , tell people you're a Hindu and . . .. . .. .. silence or understanding will abound . Certainly not the attacks that you got when you said you're Christian !!

Seems like a long way from your original question, or perhaps a little confusing for some , but it's not . It's actually the foundational reason why these things are happening . And that's exactly what the Anti-Christ wants and needs .

The ultimate answer is that these things are the evil of man and man's rejection of their own Creator , Jesus Christ .

I am outraged at the anti-gun lobby who made this all possible.

The students were in a GUN FREE ZONE, which meant that they were not allowed to carry a firearm. Unfortunately, gun control laws only apply to the law abiding. You can see the tragic results of gun control.

When are people going to realize that we can never stop maniacs from going on a rampage with more laws? All we can do is pass more laws that make victims of the law abiding.

Isn't that sufficient grounds for outrage?

there is no "one answer" that is going to solve or fix the problem. the best we can do is work together in our communities and in our nation and do what we can to help prevent as many terrible events from happening. You can't solve something when the laws that govern that event (or the people involved) change at a moments notice.

It is called the information age and newspapers are already having difficulty keeping up. Newspaper membership is already down and if they recycle the same news over and over, memberships will drop even faster.
