They're my favorite band, and I can't pick just one song.
I'll pick my favorite from all eras:
Hillel era: Fight like a brave, american ghost dance, if you want me to stay
Mother's milk/bloodsugar: Higher ground, i could have lied, under the bridge
One hot minute- my friends
Californication/By the way- californication, scar tissue, parallel universe, this velvet glove, i like dirt, purple stain, can't stop, dosed, tear, zephyr song,o n mercury
Stadium Arcadium- snow, charlie, storm in a teacup, death of a martian, readymade, make you feel better, strip my mind
John is truly the best guitar player of our generation. All his solos and licks are beautiful not to mention he is. No other bassist, in my mind, compares to Flea. He is awesome. i also love chad's drumming and anthony's singing and songwriting you can't go wrong with this band
my other favorite bands are gnr, sublime, pink floyd, mcr, led zeppelin

RHCP are nowhere near alternative - they are as mainstream as U2 or Britney Spears when she still had a career, and just as fake & lame. The Flaiming Lips, now that might be called alternative to a certain degree. But that's probably WAY too alternative for you, if you consider mediocrities like RHCP to be "alternative." And, ask yourself, alternative to WHAT? Listen to Bela Fleck & the Flecktones to hear what an alternative to cheap pop is, and to hear Victor Wooten - now HE is a real bassist, Flea is a joke.
