So I have to get one on friday. I always keep postponing it though because I am scared of needles. I was really suppose to get it 2 months ago. How can I make sure I get this one done and get it over with? I dont like to ponder over it as much as I do.

Okay, let me just tell you, I too have a huge phobia of needles! Unfortuneately for me, I got very very ill when I was 15 and now suffer from a chronic disease. Anyway, I have had to deal with that fear of needles many times due to many surgeries, blood tests, IV's, etc. As you can imagine, I too have so much anxiety and stress when I know I am going to have to get an IV or blood test! You must however not put off this test any longer as it could just lead to further complications and if there is something wrong with you(not to scare you), then they would possibly have to draw more blood and if you get it done now, you would only have to have the one test! Anyway, my dad(who is a blood doner), and has no fear of needles whatsoever, always tells me to just go in to the doctor's or hospital and just relax and take some deep breaths and just picture yourself somewhere else(like at the beach or your favorite get away) and also, talk to the person who is drawing your blood. Explain to them ahead of time about your fears and they too can help put you at ease by reassuring you it all really is a mental thing! You probably are like me and just psyche yourself out so bad by dwelling on it and thinking how terrible it is going to be and then once it is over, you can't even believe that it did not hurt at all! It basically is just a tiny pinch and nowadays the technicians, nurses, paramedics and lab people are so well trained, you do not feel a thing! Another suggestion too, is to ask the person drawing your blood if at all possible they could have another assistant come in the room where you are and just hold their hand for moral support! I know that sounds silly, but they will do it if they are not too busy and they too can really put your mind at ease! Well, good luck and I am very serious when I tell you do not put this test off any further as it really is important you get it done or it could get worse! I am not trying to scare you in anyway, I just know that this is nothing to take lightly! You probably have nothing to worry about, but it is better to do what your doctor has ordered and just find out for sure! They would not send you if they didn't feel there was need! So, good luck, have a great day, and after the test go treat yourself to something you want and normally would not buy, like a new pair of shoes, a cool DVD, a CD, or maybe just a dinner out with a friend or some ice cream!

It's okie, I hate them too. I had to get one for a check up, and I was dreading the day as well. What I did, was tell the nurse that I felt uncomfortable with needles, first. When the whole process started happening, I simply turned away, and tried to think of something else. Honestly, it wasn't that bad, sure you feel like this quick tiny sting, but then after a while, you don't feel much (because they usually tie a rubber band around your arm, to make it more easy for the blood to come out faster & for you not to be in pain) so yeah. Afterwards, I did feel a little bad, so I just asked for a cup of water, and if you really feel bad (afterwards) just place your head between your legs -kind of- position, so your circulation recovers.

Good Luck :]

It isn't so bad. They have incredibly thin needles now that you can barely feel. Just stay relaxed, keep breathing and think of something that will take your mind off of it. Hold the nurses hand if you need to. Express your anxiety. They understand.

Chicken poop!!! Come on now. It reallly is not like that bad. Ask the person who taking your blod how long they been doing it and get someone who has done it 5+years. It is a little poke and do not look when they are doing it and you will be fine.
