Actually, almost any excercises can help you increase your flexibility..(those kinda exercises you use to warm up)
just do domr lighter warm ups( erm maybe running?) before you start on the others!
If you keep repeating those exercises you perhaps would stretch your muscles and perhaps too, it is possible to increase your flexibillity.
(the answer might be getting you round and round, and it seems like its getting on on the same spot)
what i do usually
is
stretching stretching and stretching
doing handstands for practising somersaults
doing splits (which i can't do it completely)
cartwheels
reach your fingers to your legs by the front
pull up your legs such as pull it into a \ or /
erm reach out to your legs by the sides
kick your legs to all four directions
jumping and jump and turn...
^^are what i do before my dance practise^^
losing your muscles helps the most ,maybe,
i do much mroe to increase my flexibility for dancing..don't force yourself out, it depends on the age

Believe it or not, this fat ole man took ballet for a year in college and had a gymnastics scholorship at WSU back when they had a program for men.
Ballet stretches muscles you never even knew you had when using proper technique. Imagine a string from the top of your head being pulled up, your shoulders pressing down, your back straight as a board while raising your arms... that right there outta tear some gristle outta your neck.
Most of the stretching for warm up is going to be similar to gymnastics or football, stuff to warm up the muscles and get the blood going. then, after working the major muscle groups, work on your ankles and feet, stretching your achilles and calf, SLOWLY and with fifty percent resistance. Lots more to say, but yes, it is important to have someone there to present technique, that way, you won't develop any bad habits to break. Good luck!

Before doing anything, do simple stretches on your arms, legs, back, all of your body. Simple stretches you do before PE or any other sport are fine. Then, for flexibility I'd recommend these stretches:
1. Find a blank wall and lay down, pressing your butt against the wall, your legs stright up against the wall. Open your legs as far as you can, and hold it there. It hurts, but it works.
2. Lay on the ground with both feet straight out infront of you. Pull your right leg up and hold for eight counts. Turn your leg out so your foot is pointed to the left. Turn it back in and lift your leg in the air, stretching it the best you can with your back still on the floor. Then, take your leg and take it to your right side as far as you can while keeping both of your hips on the ground (this can be difficult). Repeat this on the left side also.
3. Simple things, touch your toes, sit in butterfly and stretch over, reach towards your toes while stretching, they all add up.
4. Sit in straddle as wide as you can. Stretch to the right, then the left, and then try to touch your head, arms, chest, etc. to the ground. Make sure you pull your knees back or this won't be as effective. You can place your arms under your knees to help with this.
Hope these help!

the best place to improve flexibility is in the swimming pool when you do exercises in the water it builds up muscle tone and muscle strength ask your ballet teacher if there are any exercises that you do at the barre that you could try in water. if your teacher is unsupportive i'd try and find a teacher who is supportive

do any stretches that you know from class, they normally will help to work all the muscles in the body. floor stretches are the best.
