I think that Cricket does not require that much physical stamina that Football (soccer), Hockey and such team-events would require. It is a well known fact that people from this subcontinent are lacking in stature (height of a body) and stamina (physical or mental endurance).
As long as these basic handicaps are remaining with us the Cricket would continue to be the game that our subcontinents' player can make some dent in world level competitions.
On the political and economical front, India is now trying to dominate the world, and would be reluctant to abandon Cricket (the only hope to dominate among the sporting events) to pursue other games with same vigor and commitment. This is because those new efforts would not bring immediate results, thereby loss of national prestige as well as loss of commercial deals.
These myopic views would make it unlikely that other sports would get prominence in India in near future.

Cricket is India's favorite passtime because they have a chance to be really good at it. It is a game where all can pay in the streets and many people can join in at a time, this brings people together and we all know that indians probably the biggest cricket loving nation in the world.

The reasons are:
(1) Indian fans are cricket-crazy and hence all the sponsors pour in their money only on cricket and not on any other game.
(2) Even though Hockey is our national game officially, cricket is the un-official national game , as it attracts people of all the ages, both men and women.
(3) On the other side, games like hockey and tennis have gone to an all-time low in India.
So, no wonder people are "tempted" towards cricket, even if it is the "laziest" game!

this is a fact..
due which other games suffer..
yes i agree we r cumin up in other games but there is no MAGIC word attached to them & tht word is "GLAM".. sania mirza i cant think of any other sport player highlited so much in INDIA..
there r football crazy ppl in INDIA.. there r tennis fans.. but they rfew in number as compared to cricket fans.. coz CRICKET is an easily played game.. a bat & ball is so easily available.. not a tennis racket(5000k)... makes a lot of difference...
so believe in cricket..

to expand our minds so that we could realize that cricket is neither the begining nor the end of life
