Ok, so i just got a new gateway laptop and it comes with Windows Vista installed on it... I hate Vista... how do I downgrade to XP? I got the XP installation CD but I dont know how to format disk. How do i wipe the computer? I need detailed help because Im not very good at this so I need a step-by-step explanation. I'll appreciate any help you can give me. Thank you

First, you need to go to BIOS setting. As soon as your computer boots up, press key or other keys indicated on the screen. Then set your CD-Rom as a primary device, so it will be read in the first priority.

Then put your CD into the PC, then continue booting. DOS will say "Press any key to boot from CD." Press any key, then start installing XP. Good Luck!

It's should be pretty easy.

Boot from the XP CD. Do a 'new' windows install and delete the partition(s). The install program will then format and install XP.

If this doesn't work, you might need to use Darik's boot and Nuke to erase the boot sectors, but I doubt you'll need it. http://dban.sourceforge.net/

Download Darik's Boot And Nuke (DBAN) from Sourceforge, burn it to a CD, and use it to remove all traces of Vista. From there you can just follow the onscreen directions from your XP disc.
