A Real-Time Operating System (RTOS) is a multitasking operating system intended for real-time applications. Such applications include embedded systems (programmable thermostats, household appliance controllers, mobile telephones), industrial robots, spacecraft, industrial control (see SCADA), and scientific research equipment.
OS or Operating System are the software that run your Computer Programs and Applications.

OS stands for operating system. (Windows, OSX... ect)
RTOS stands for real-time operating system. Real time operating systems are made to multi-task with minimal latency. Cell phones run on a RTOS.

Real time OS's are used for like doppler radars. Something that is captured in "real time" or present time is considered to be one of these. Unfortunately, I havent been able to work w/ any of these yet.
