I think Dianewhathername got carried away. The topo map has magnetic info as she mentioned, and has contour lines to indicate the elevation and the steepness of the land, and steam flows in blue to indicate where they may be streams, ponds, swamps and the like. There are also topo reference points that have the exact elevation and location, so the surveyor can certify that he is at the right point when he does his work.

Usually, a surveyor will CREATE topographical maps so that engineers can use the information to design buildings, parking lots, retention ponds and roads. The only times a surveyor benefits from topographic maps is when he is in the process of finding section corners or boundary lines relative to topographic features like lakes, rivers, etc. Sometimes surveyors will use USGS quad maps that show latitude and longitude grid and features like water towers and radio towers that can be used for approximate orientation. Topographic features include: contour lines, water depths, bench marks, buildings, towers, roads, trails, tree lines, swamps, lakes, rivers, section lines, power lines and other features.

The features of the map are: elevation numbers, a legend and a compass. The numbers tell the surveyor how far above sea level he is, it also tells him of orally transmitted hyperbolic tales, and where Santa's workshop is.

Unicorns are mythical beings, and also you've were given no evidence of their existence. Are you thoroughly insane? you're in basic terms ignoring each and each of the evidence. the position's your evidence for the earth being "lower than 10,000 years previous"?
