(4x^2-2x+8)-(x^2+3x-2) = 4x^2-2x+8-x^2-3x+2
=4x^2 - x^2 - 2x - 3x + 2 +8
=3x^2 -5x + 10
Solve using quadratic equation
x = ( -10(+/-)√40) / 6
Then calculate x

Sure. Put the like terms together, but remember the minus sign changes the signs in the second polynomial, because it's the same as multiplying -1 by it.

4x^2 - x^2 - 2x - 3x + 8 + 2

then add and subtract them

3x^2 -5x + 10

first you combine like terms. and you would get 3x^2-5x+10
