Thats not true! I have been using AMD for a long time, and never had any problems. Any cpu will over heat if you don't have the proper cooling for it, my AMD 64/2 4200+ runs at 25c idle and about 30 with a full load, though I am using a zalmans cooler instead of the stock heat sink and fan. amd's are very good cpu's and benchmark well. I am a repair tech and also build custom systems AMD and Intel but I like the amd's better as for price and quality. Been in business for over 15 years and never had a complaint yet about amd cpus. Your mother board must amd compatible to go with amd cpu's.

The guys above have pretty much stated what you needed to know except for which amd cpu to go for when looking at a budget. I chose the AMD 64 X2 3800+(Dual-Core model). It runs safely at 37-45 degrees, so it doesn't burn up. It's a great cpu if your looking to do some gaming and maybe some video editing. Hope this helped out in some way.

remember that you will need a new motherboard to change to an AMD chip. Any chip can burn up I suggest that you replace the AMD/Intel processor Fan/Cooling unit with one much more powerful if you are scared of this happening.

It's not just isolated to AMD chips. Any processor can burn up if allowed to heat up enough. That's why there's a failsafe in the bios that will shut the machine down when it reaches a certain temp.

NOPE!
I've lots of them and I also overclock them a lot. So far I've not fried a single one yet.
No processor will "burn up" easily, even if the heatsink fan dies prematurely. The computer will just go on auto shutdown.
The HOTtest processor I know is P4 PresHOT, I mean Prescott.

every chip intel or amd will burn up if you over clock them too much or the fan stops working, i have seen more of the p4 intels burn up then the amds because the p4's are so small and get over heated quickly.

AMD beats all of intel's processors except for the core 2s. And AMD is cooler than intel (I mean temperature wise).
