india's failure is the combined responsibility of the coach and the players. but the players responsible a hell lot times than the coach. indian players are not talented but they are glamorous and glamour does not finds its way in a hard working sport like cricket. all the indian players are seen modelling for new brands all through the day but their practice sessions lasts for only a few hours then how can we hope from such a team to bag the WORLD CUP its practically impossible!!!

The main reasons for India's dismal performance in the WC2007 are:
(1) The team was over-confident of their victory against the Bangladeshis. They took their victory for granted and this eventually led to the downfall of the team.
(2) The Indian team was completely demoralised when they met Srilanka. Every player was playing for his survival only and not for the team.
(3) The team did not have even a single all-rounder, where as the Srilanka had players Jayasuriya, Arnold, Vaas to name a few !

It grew to become into due tocollective failure of batting, bowlngand fiielding. Aftertheir convincing victories interior the sequence against West Indies and Sri Lanka performed in India merely in the previous the international cup, Indian group grew to become very over useful and complacent and as such they did no longer take Bangladesh of their first worldcup adventure very heavily and that they paid the fee for a similar.

Too many distractions occurred right from when they were trying to form the Team for the ICC Cricket World Cup - 2007. You can put the number of events that caused a lot of confusions as well as indecisions which ultimately was responsible for less-than-cohesive team to face even a weakling of Bangladesh stature. Individually almost all the players were at least twice as good as their Bangladeshi counterparts.

The following major distractions were mostly responsible:

1. Politics in selecting players for Indian Team: Coach Gregory Stephen Chappell’s authority was being challenged by some senior cricketers for which he was mostly responsible.

2. Sourav Ganguly episode: Greg Chappell dropped Sourav first from the Indian cricket team by the selectors on the grounds of poor form in 2006 after his Zimbabwe tour in September 2005 and later taken back in the 2006 - 2007 Indian tour of South Africa.

3. Too many experiments: Greg Chappell’s tinkering with the batting lineup and unorthodox cricket coaching methods.

4. Commercialization of Cricket: Top-players in Indian Team were excessively involved with commercial ventures (read advertisements), which no doubt cast bad spell over individual’s performance. Remember, the basic mantra for Yoga exercises where too much emphasis is given on ‘concentration’, that element was hampered greatly in this year’s ICC Cricket WD mission.

If the Team India can not be re-casted like any other professional and business bodies we see in India who excel by a great margin among the South Asians, the performance of Indian Cricket team would be similar to that of Pakistani Cricket Team, for that matter you may count Bangladeshi Cricket Team's recent performance where One Win was eclipsed by subsequent two to three Losses.

Just now BBC announced that the BCCI has finalized the list of players for ODI as well as Test for their forthcoming Bangladesh mission. Good Luck to the new combination which is basically the old wine in new bottle. However, slight changes would even make the senior players take their job seriously!

No Team Effort.
Everyone played for their own benefit. I can't see them playing as a team.
Just 11 best cricketers not 1 good team like Bangaldesh/Ireland which is a good with average players...

other nations have more money, facilities, properer nutrition, etc.
also, indians are not as gifted physically as say, an american or african player. there, natural advantages such as tigh length, etc. come into play

oops, I thought you were talking about the soccer world cup... Im sorry. but same things still apply here.

if Ganguly hadn't been given that long break, he wud have excelled and he was a good captain. Dravid is NOT better than Ganguly.
