If you have the choice I would say the Devil Rays simply because you would have a better chance of a fast rise through the system and making it to the majors. Tampa is a great city and nice environment even though they don't have the best rep among major league teams. The Yanks are a storied franchise, but it would seem to me that it would be a lot longer road to get to the show with the Yanks. Good luck.....

As the old saying goes, "be careful what you wish for, you just might get it." If you want to go to NY, remember what comes with the territory, you'd better have thick skin to deal with the fans when things aren't going well for you. Some players like Jeff Weaver never did seem to handle the pressure of Yankee fans or the NY media to well, but few years later he has a world series ring with the St. Louis Cardinals.

However if you do well in NY, you always seem to have a chance to be in the post-season as things stand now.

Tampa Bay on the other hand often features young players, some of whom have turned out to be pretty good and would likely find themselves on any major league rosters, and probably starting for most teams (Baldelli, Crawford). However Tropicana Feild overall doesn't offer the best baseball atmosphere when the ballpark generally drawls maybe 10,000 people a game (excluding Yankees and Red Sox).

But you get a chance to play and show off your talents. It worked for Aubrey Huff. He got his start in Tampa Bay, made a name for himself, accepted a trade to Houston, and now he finds himself with a bigger contract playing for the Orioles.

Yeah I know, historically the Orioles haven't been much better than the D-Rays, but here's an example of a guy who did his time with Tampa Bay, proved himself to the league, and now he's getting a bigger contract somewhere else as a result.

So if you played for the D-Rays, you could either walk in your free agent year, or get traded first then test free agency as in the case with Huff. You never know just how many playoff calibur teams might be interested in your services.

For example, if the Yankees can only use you as a back-up, Detroit might drop in and say hey, we can offer you a bigger contract and make your our starting 3rd baseman.

Those are just some things to consider. Make your way with Tampa and stick with them if they finally look like an organization that can threaten for the playoffs, or do your time in Tampa, and then find a team that offers you a better situation (which may or may not be the Yankees or Red Sox).

If those are your only options I would go with the Rays. You would have a better chance at making it to the majors and you wouldn't have to deal with steinbrenner and the crazy expectations of Yankee fans. If your good enough you could start there and get the free agent money in New York after you prove yourself.

PLEASE!! I hope you play better baseball than you write English!! If you want recognition and want to be in the lime light, be sure you can express yourself well both orally and in writing. Get your education first and then worry about where you want to "sign." Of course, remember, the teams themselves DO have something to say about whom they sign. Are you sure both are vying for your services??

Chow!!
