Wow?! this is weird or what?

I have 2 red ear sliders (about 3 years old each) and i just fed them 10 rosy red minnows i bought earlier at petco for a dollar (great price i think).....

well its been about 3 hours since i put the rosy reds in and the turtles not only have not ate them but are not even close with them!

is this shockingly strange or what?

i've had these turtles for 3 years and they've never had feeders. now the rosy reds are with them and the turtles are showing 0 interest in eating them!

maybe the beginning of a happy relationship? lol

Don't worry about it, it's normal. I started to feed mine rosy reds when they were 2 years old. At first they won't really show an interest but cut back on the pelet food and they'll catch on rather quickly. My female eats almost 3 fish a day and my male eats about 4 a day. It took about 2 days for them to realize that they were food. You'll see that about after a week or so that there's about 2 fish left in the tank that the turtles aren't going near. Don't worry about this either. This is called natural selection. Your turtles have eaten the dumb ones, these last remaining ones are the smart ones. Just add some more feeders in the tank and they'll eat the fish again. Some smarter feeders may stay in the tank for up to a couple months but they too get eaten. They'll show 100% interest pretty soon. You can also feed them goldfish (not many though because they're high in fat), platys, and I've given mine mini-tetras. Good luck with your turtles!

Sometimes turtles are just not interested in eating fish. Some turtles are just too slow to catch them. There could be a variety of reasons why your turtles arent eating or arent even trying to catch the fish you bought.

This is what happend to me:

I have two red ear slider who lived happily with a variety of fish for about 4 months. I was told that if the fish survived longer than 3 days in the tank with the turtles it meant the turtles didn't want to eat them. So I went out and spent a pretty penny on some really pretty fish. And one completely random day I woke up and half my fish were gone. Within a couple of days, ALL the fish were gone except 1 that was hiding behind a rock. LOL.

So I went to Petco and bought 30 feeder fish, but they arent scarfing them down like the other ones. They've only eaten about a handful of them.

So I guess from personal experience I can say RES will eat them when they feel like it.

They probably just don't realize they like fish yet. You haven't fed them fish before, so the turtles are probably looking at these fish thinking "What the heck are these?" One day, though, one of them will get curious as to what those little things taste like......

That's strange, altho I have to admit I had the same thing happen with a mouse and a puff adder once, haha! Rather take them out and try again later, I'd say.
