I've watched the Matrix a couple of times and I still have a heard idea of understanding what in the world it's about. Can someone give me a somewhat detailed summary of this?
And while you're at it maybe explain to me.. why Neo, what is so special about him? What do they mean by 'the one'? Where exactly are they? How did they travel in time to 100 years later? What's the point of the movie? What IS the Matrix? What's the deal with the agent guys?
I DON'T GET THIS MOVIE! I've heard there is a lot of depth to it and I want to understand it! Help!

Basically, this is a futuristic version of an ancient idea (for more information, read The Republic by Plato).
Think of it this way:
The only thing you've ever seen over the course of your life is restrained to the computer monitor right in front of you (you can't even see the black plastic surrounding the screen), and it's stuck on a video game. Since you have not witnessed anything outside of what is going on in the game, you believe that the entirety of life IS the game.
One day, somebody turns off the game, and you are shown that there's an entire room surrounding you that is completely outside of the game. You find out that the game that you had been playing your entire life - the game that you thought WAS life - is not life at all, but the game is just a shadow world. THIS is what the matrix is. It is a shadow world that distracts one from seeing the real world, or in my situation, the room around you.
You can see now that there is no time travel. It's like the person in my example playing a 1950's simulation and waking up in 2007. They only thought it was 1950, when it is really 2007.
The agents are the ones who are able to manipulate the program from within to stop anyone from leaving the simulation that is the matrix. They are like the administrators that stop anybody from creating a program to (for an example) give you unlimited ammunition in an online first-person shooter.
Now, what they mean by "the one" is that Neo will destroy the matrix (and thus reveal the actual world to all people).

umm have you only seen the first movie or the whole series? okay so basically to begin with,
the matrix is a system where everything is designed to be like real life. except theyre not actually in the real world and not living. and the matrix is controlled by the machines, which is currently at war with real humans in the real world.
and in the real world, there are real people trying to free people in the matrix and somehow getting them from the matrix into the real world
so basically people in the matrix believe they are real, but techinically they are not.
neo is the one, because there is a prophecy that tells after the one is found, he will lead the humans to defeat the machines. basically the one is able to break the laws of the matrix more than the real humans that go into the matrix. i think there are 6 'ones' including neo. so basically, the one would go through this door and talk with the arcitech, which is the creator of the matrix. then the architech explains him a choice of doing something in the matrix (neo's was to save trinity) or to start the whole war over. when you start the war over, the one chooses a certain amount of people from the real world to regrow zion. then its back to finding the one and doing it all over. every 'one' before neo, chose the second thing to start over. neo chose to save trinity though. so then neo goes to the machine place in the real world and blah blah blah. in the end he creates ultimate peace.
the agents, i think, are designed by the machines to stop the real people in the matrix and prevent them from finding the one. but smith becomes different and is able to duplicate himself.
yeah its really confusing. i had to watch it a lot to understand it

Matrix is a superb movie. It has lot of freshness reagrding storyline and characters. MAtrix works for all those thrills. Virtual world, voluntary suspension of disbelief, virtual conflicts, etc. For a while you forget the world you live in and are glad to enter into an uncommon, incredible and exotic land. Matrix is actually a trilogy. I will also recommed you to watch the other movies of this series, they are equally splendid.

Dude, how can you *not* get "the Matrix?" OKay, first of all, humanity, *in reality*, has been enslaved by artificially intelligent robotic lifeforms.
The cities and skylines and societies that you see in the movie do not really exist, except in a computer-generated "matrix" which is fed into the brains of every existing human being, who now all lay comatose in vast valleys of incubation units.
Neo and the crew of the Nebucchadnezzar have managed to escape the AI enslaver's imprisonment and now wage a war to free humanity.
Neo is special because he has the ability to "read" the matrix, rather than simply being part and parcel to it, he can decode it, literally, the AI code that comprises the matrix. With this ability comes the power to manipulate the computer-generated reality at will, as well as the AI designers themselves.

the matrix is about human technology taking over see what happens is we invent A.I. or artificial intelegence machines that actually think for themselves really if you get deep down humans are just organic machines. now in the matrix the first one its about the a world that was created by machines to enslave us so they could tap the electrical impulses from our brains for energy in other words they used us for battries. since humans actually use fusion as a source of fuel for our bodys all the machines had to do was pump organic matter into your stomachs then make us think that we were running walking or so on hence the matrix was made so we would expend energy that they could tap from our bodies. the matrix is a computer world that our brains are linked to like when you saw them shove the things in the back of their heads. lol dont try that with your computer it wouldnt work. anyways neo the main charchter realizes that its not reality that its a fake world. knowing that its fake he learns to bend the rules of the matrix like hacking a computer program so he can cheat. this is how he runs faster jumps further and can dodge bullets etc. if you watch all three movies there is more indepth meaning than just what the movie is about its about not giving up that peace is worth any price even your life sometimes the rest of the movies are more complicated but if you have any questions just message me or send an email and ill explain as best i can

I think if you watched the movie and think they traveled through time you just need to give up on understanding it all together. But here is a simple understanding of the Matrix.
*Robots have taken over the earth.
*People are used as batteries to power robots
*Some people managed to escape the robots and have started recruiting more people.
*The people are kept in a coma and but in a virtual reality called The Matrix so there bodies dont die and can still be used as batteries.
*Neo may be powerful enough to help fight the robots, so he is considered the One
*Neo learns how to take advantage of the virtual reality program.
*Neo beats the robot's Agent program.
*Neo is the One.

Humans of the future are kept alive as living battery cells for robots that rule the world. The robots have invented a computer program world that is called "the matrix" for the human batteries to dream away in while they produce energy. Once figuring out you are in a dream world, anything is possible as it is now like a computer game. The agent guys aren't human, they are part of "the matrix" computer program to watch over humans that are dreaming in there.

Actually, matric is about the theory of live in this world. If you are refer to the science theory, the image of the eyes projection which we see in our live is not real. So, the matric implement this theory and also create their own world.
