I like how it sounds but I first thought it was Carlyle. Carly is a pretty name, though. Maybe another spelling like Carley or Carlie, if you're trying to go for something semi-different. I'm not too fond of it spelled like Carlye, only bc I thought it was something completely different when i first read it.

I think Carlye is a great name. I'd just simplify the spelling and leave off the "e" at the end.

I understand that people want a unique name for their child, but I must ask you the same question I have asked others when they start trying to "create" a name.
Why would anyone put a child in a position to have their name misspelled forever? Why put a child in the predicament that each time they step up in front of a display of license plates, pens and room signs, they search forever and never find their name?
Carly is a unique name in itself, and if it is what you would like to name your child, then do it. If you are going to pronounce it just as it is spelled, then don't try to be creative. Your child will thank you in the long run.
Signed,
Scauete (pronounced Scotty)

My name is Carli and I always have to spell it for people, but these days you have to spell everything for some people! The name has worked well for me, not too common but not too "out there". I am sure your daughter will be beautiful no matter what you call her.

Its nice and unique. Just know she won't be able to find things with her name on it and she will constantly have to spell it for people or people will ask if there is a misspelling in their records. My name is Ambre (pronounce it as Amber) and I get that kind of stuff all the time. I didn't always like it growing up but I like it now because it is different.

I like the name but it probably should be spelled differently. if you don't want it to be an extremely common spelling then try Carleigh, Carlie, Carlee, Carley. Carli, Carlei, or any of the spellings beginning with a K.

If you have to explain the correct way to pronounce it, just think about growing up with that name. In school, she would always have to correct people. When I glance at it, my mind automatically thinks "Carlyle" Carly is pretty and it could be Carlee, Carly, Carleigh, Carlie, Karlee, Karlie. Hope this helped.

Too weird. People would be calling the poor child car-lyle or car-lye, which sounds very manly. Why not just Carly or Carlie, so that the pronunciation is clear?

If the 'e' is silent why add it? If it's family name or has a good reasons behind it then go with it. But always remember that someone else (not you) has to live with the name. Will it make things difficult for them or hinder them in anyway?
If you can honestly say you have a good reason to spell it this way and feel that it won't be odd for the person being given the name then please go with your heart. But if you have any doubts go with the more accepted spelling and make life simpler for all.

Well, CARL means manly. Whereas Carly or Carley is short for Carlotta, which is the feminine form of Charles.
Charles means "free man".
Dunno if its a girl or a boy, which could be advantageous in some respects later on in life. If you give it that name, give them a relatively 'normal' middle name to fall back on. They could always change it, but be prepared to answer some questions in 15 years.
As for my personal opinion: It'll get spelled worng ALL the time and...Meh.
