I am Wiccan...sometimes i like to go to r&s because it is spirituality. And i am in the mood for a good debate!!
But i also come here because i am insulted less, and r&s gets me too angry for my own good sometimes, so i come over here and deal with the more enlightened ones!
No i dont find it offensive, because i can post anywhere..i do find christians offensive when they say we dont belong there, but i just dont listen.BB)o(

Mythology and Folklore is appropriate -- Wiccans and other Pagans make a serious study of Mythology and Folklore, and we base our own beliefs and practices on Mythology and Folklore, especially those of us trying to reconstruct the religions of ancient cultures. Plus, every sincere question about Wicca and Neopaganism posted to the R&S section tends to get at least a dozen attacks from "well meaning" Christians. Mayhap it's safer in this category?

I see a few questions posted about Wicca, witchcraft and paganism posted in the R&S section of Yahoo Answers. But I'm not sure why it's mostly posted in here (Mythology & Folklore).

It perhaps is a little unfair, however when you see the bashing alternate spiritual paths cop in the R&S section, do you really want to be counted in there?
Anyways, there origins of Wicca are firmly rooted in mythology and folklore, so it does have a place in there, even if it should also be in R&S.

Most of the questions asked about Wicca ARE in the Religion and Spirituality section. Do an "Advanced" search for "Wicca" and you'll see for yourself.

there are 3 reasons for this.

because this is where the intrest in our religions start. in the stories of old that are discounted by modern society as mythology and folklore. to us many of these stories are as true as the story of Noah and the ark. so this is where we will find people of like mind.

second reason is sad. go to the religion and spirituality section, and ask a question about any Pagan religion of natural witchcraft. and you will be bombarded by people telling you that you are going to hell. and by people that can only cut and paste from the giant e-bible. in this room you probably get better advice and more positive answers.

third reason. is because to most Pagans storytelling is a very importent occupation. the bardic arts were one of the requirements of training to become a Celtic Druid. and most ancient cultures prized their storytellers as keepers of history and as entertainers.

Don't be prejudice, all religions on earth was based on mythology. Christianity, Hinduism, Islam...

It isn't fair to say that a religion can't be called as one if it is found in myths. Because religion means a common belief in a supernatural entity or the like. It doesn't matter where it came from really, it's all about faith.

yes Wicca is a religion and its not an insult to me because by anthropological definition, myth and folklore are both historical accounts by storytelling to preserve history and/or belief. Both of which are very important and respected by Wiccans

I am Wiccan and I don't find it insulting, either.

I am always pleased to see questions regarding my spiritual path. Education is the first step in stopping prejudice. Many other religions (Christians mostly) don't know anything other than what they are told by their religious leaders and they follow that on what they would label "faith". If we continually educated them hopefully their fear will transcend to understanding and at the least tolerance.
