You shouldn't need a install CD. All you should have to do is hook the modem up to your computer via a network cable and make sure your network settings are for obtain IP address automatically. to do this go to the start button- setting- network connections- right click on the local area connection you are using and go to properties. Then double click on the Internet protocol (TCP/IP) and make sure the obtain IP address automatically is selected. If this doesn't work I would probably call your cable modem provider tech. support.

If you have an Ethernet card you don't need to install any drivers for the cable modem...only if you use the USB port to connect it which by the way is slower...so you don't want to do that...
Just connect the cord coming out of the cable modem to the Ethernet card or router, then Ethernet...simple.

I don't mess with the techie stuff. I had to pick up a cable modem at the provider's store, and bought a linksys and routers(whatever that is).

We have place nearby called PC Housecalls. I had a tech come to the house, he setup my cable, networked 3 computers, and got everything going in a short time. They charged $60 an hour but trust me it was well worth it. Some things are better left to the professionals.

as was already stated you don't need to install software for the cable modem to function. as long as it has been provisioned at the head-end by the ISP you should be good to go
