Not knowing year, injection, carb, does it have obd 2 ?? The new laws in Ca. make it very difficult. You should talk to DMV or a smog tech. or a service shop for some advice. Smog checks are related to the VIN number.

The first thing is did they offer a v8 in that year of car. If so then you have to put all the smog equip. on for that year. If they didn't offer a v8 then it will never pass. In order to pass smog the car has to have factory options offered in that year even still they might give you some hassel with the vin code when they punch it in to the computer stating that its a v6 when infact it's a v8 now. Just check with a local smog station they can give you some answers there.

do no longer pay attention to maximum of those human beings! To do a V-8 change it in all fairness uncomplicated. purely choose wiring harness, computing gadget exhaust and radiator. that's an instantaneous bolt up. No welding, no reducing, and no fabricating.

you can always try a smaller carbeurator and changing the timing. Not usre if it will work on your car in Ca., but did it to my brothers car in Ga.
The idle may need to be raised. And the timning most likely will need to be advanced.
