President Bush said on April 10 that "Congress's failure to fund our troops will mean that some of our military families could wait longer for their loved ones to return from the front lines" OK so I don't know how you take this but it seems to me that longer deployments are entirely unacceptable RIGHT?

Then why did Sec. of Defense Gates say this the following day? All Soldiers in the U.S. Central Command area of operations will serve 15-month tours in the region beginning immediately, Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates announced yesterday.
http://www.army.mil/-news/2007/04/12/2637-sec-gates-extends-army-tours-in-iraq-to-15-months/

That's an additional 3 months over the extended tours these men & woman of our Armed Forces are all ready serving, so why is it unacceptable on the 10th and OK on the 11th?

You are not nuts, you are just discovering some more double-talk from Bush. Notice the dates...on the 10th Bush blamed any extended deployments on the Dems in Congress...b/c he knew what was going to be announced on the 11th and he didn't want to take the flak for it. Basically, he was baiting his Bushies into telling them who to blame for this...anyone but him basically. It's very typical behavior from him, I'm so sick of it.

EDIT: For those who don't see it for what it is...the funding a)would be cut by Bush's veto and b)the extended deployments will occur whether or not the funding is given...that's why they are announced now...not when the actual funding has run out. For the time...it is still there, no matter what happens the extended deployments will stand and Bush's scapegoating will continue.

Money has nothing to do with the troops staying longer. Gates is doing this because the military is stretched to thin. Troops tours have been extended and time home has been cut short for months now. They are extending upon it. I do not understand why Bush would say Congress not giving the money is the cause of this when the commanders have been saying they are struggling to maintain the troop levels needed in Iraq. Troops are required to have a mandatory rest time at home but the military has been breaking that to keep up with the activities in Iraq and now this surge. Whether or not Congress gives money, this would still happen so Bush is basically discrediting himself once again.

The administration knows exactly what is going on. You are not going nucking futs.

The Bush administration is on an "all or nothing" course in regard to Iraq and the rest of the middle east. Bush has no concern what so ever about the individual troops nor their families. He wanted this war from the first day in office ad hounded the intelligence agencies to find a justification for going to war with Iraq.

I really think it's odd that this Administration under President George W Bush, including the military cannot cite an objective in Iraq. When anyone questions the continueing carnage there involving the killing and wounding of young americans the Administration claims that we don't support the troops.
How does putting our troops in harms way 'help the troops'.
How does equipping our young men and women with lightly armored vehicles that are pierced with roadside bomb shrapnel helping win something that is yet to be clearly identified.
What does victory mean?
What are we going to win?

Well, that's the BooBoo the Bush administration made.
THEY were the ones who will be delaying the return of the troops because of the chaos and unrest in Iraq instead of the issue of funding.

Play the Blame Game, Simple Bush says.

jurge06 and Caesarion are completely wrong because they did not read the news report carefully.
Typical cons.

When they blame someone else just look at the EXACT OPPOSITE of what was said and you'll see the LIE and the TRUTH simultaneously.
Really quite easy once you get over the hump of disbelief that this is the PRESIDENT OF OUR COUNTRY who does NOTHING but LIE to us about EVERYTHING.
It is amazing in and of itself but once you accept that that is what is happening you'll discern the causation and truth much more rapidly.
Past presidents have lied-but usually in specific cases to get themselves out of trouble. This man is completely pathological about it and people do need to wake up to this fact.
Luckily his time and power are both running out and all the destruction he has done does extend to his own party so once gone there will be no continuation of it and hopefully the damage he has wrought can be undone to a great extent.

Remember -if his jowls even quiver -HE IS LYING.....................

They've been in power how long? You're still trying to make sense of that f**ked up "jobs for the boys", "line our own pockets", corrupt, sleazy pile of crap they call the GOP.

Just count the days until they're gone that's all you can do.

You are going nuts, or at least, misinterpretting what is said.

On the 10th, Bush said that since Congress has not sufficiently funded the troops, their families COULD BE waiting LONGER for them to return home. That is basically saying - since Congress has cut funding, troops will be staying longer. He was telling the public what was going to happen, and it was announced the next day.

I still don't see what you're missing there.
