Start an index system. List each person you meet, their birthday, their favorite sport(s), their hobbies, names of their family members, their home address, anything else about them that is interesting...to you. Their major is also important. Drop them a note on their birthday, just a postcard. Make it a personal touch. List people for contact according to whatever standard you want to employ. For example, some you might try to contact weekly, some monthly, some every 2-6 months, others at least once a year. Make the contact by phone to hear their voice and let them hear yours. Also, whenever you talk to anyone, look them right in the eye (actually right between the eyes, at the bridge of the nose), and seriously listen to them. Focus your entire attention on them, as though they were going to tell you the secrets of the universe. Support them in any endeavor they're working on. Verbally support them. If you can, keep a picture of them as well. Do this the rest of your life. You will develop a data base of people who know and like you and who you can tap for help and information. Seriously work at it. Then, when you run for president, you'll have a cadre of supporters who will go the extra mile for you.

Go to the events the school holds and talk to people. Drinking gets people comfortable, so grab a drink and just make witty or observative comments to people and just be yourself. To keep in touch just plan something to do and invite people. I'm thinking of having a barbecue at my place this summer and also some poker games while watching some sports on tv.

People come together for only one reason. Their similarities! Find things in common with people, and keep the friends that are special. Don't feel embarrassed to talk to anyone. Just say Hi, and start a conversation about nothing. No one really talks about anything anyway lol. Get a hobby and find friends who are into it also. How do you keep in touch? Just do it. I have contacted people whom i haven't talked to in years and when i finally did call them it was like we were hanging out just YESTERDAY! Good luck, and have no fear, there are always good people.

Talk to people, plain and simple, some will like you some won't that's the way it is. Seriously this isn't really something people can explain to you, if you need this much help getting/keeping friends there's a real problem here that Y! isn't going to help.
