You betcha. A couple of our closest friends returned from an extended vacation in the Netherlands, and we spent hours with them talking about the standard of living over there.

The first thing you notice, they said, is how clean the country is. No litter. No garbage in the street. The people take pride in it's appearance, and it shows.

Second, is how they've utilized mass transit. Trains are the biggest mode. There are parking lots at the stations JUST FOR THE BICYCLES - which are also heavily used, instead of cars.

Third, every able bodied person has a job. It might not be a great job, but according to your abilities, you have a job.

Fourth, everyone has HEALTH CARE! And I'm not talking about "crappy" health care. You hear all these Americans whining about how Canada's health care isn't that great, well...they'd better study up on the Netherlands before they go whining about "socialism."

Fifth, they take sex education seriously and allow teens access to contraception. Their teen pregnancy rate is the lowest on the planet - 9X lower than ours.

Sixth, they tolerate the use of cannabis.

Lastly, they have legalized and gotten a handle on prostitution.

First two too cold, 3 is a pretty nice place if you can handle those lunatic aussies, 4 too cold, 5 is nice, 6 is nice, 7 too cold, 8 is pretty good except for the theocon loons, 9 the language is too hard to learn, 10 is very cool.

Overall I'm staying here - we'll be rid of Saint Dumbya soon enough.

The United States rates Lowest in Education of any Industrialized Nation. The"No Child Left Behind" program didn't help.

We need the issues concerning our Children, like Education and Health Care to be taken more seriously as we support candidates and go to the voting polls.

I had a feeling it would be Norway and Sweden at the top. But I'm surprised that Finland didn't make the top 10.

I would have placed Canada and Iceland higher, but the top places are a bit chilly for my tastes.

Seems right to me Norway and Sweden seem to keep to themselves and their people do have a very high standard of living and Australia well our lifestyle speaks for itself.
