Japan directly attacked US Pearl Harbor because U.S. indirectly attached and provoked Japan before they attacked U.S. The fact is that U.S and U.K. enacted an embargo on all oil supplies to Japan. The embargo cut off 90% of Japan’s resources, which crippled their economy and most military. If Japan didn’t attack U.S., 15-25 million Japanese civilians would have starved to death because of the shortage of oil. After WWII, Douglas MacArthur, American general, who played a prominent role in the Pacific theater of WWII, stated that it was a defensive war against America and the great powers.

We saved Europe and the world from Nazi Germany _ when Japan foolishly attacked Pearl Harbor, assuming "involved' is defined as the reason we physically entered the war.
We were already involved, as we were supplying Britain with weapons and intelligence before the attack on Pearl Harbor.

The US had the "neutrality act" which said we (the US) could not take sides in the war. Roosevelt and his staff were ok with this law because of our outdated and small Air Force (less than 1000 planes) and small number of troops. however when Japan bombed Pearl Harbor on Dec 6, 1941 (check date) it wasnt about Europe or Germany anymore. America had lives to save and a whole lot of pride to protect.

Actually, the US was quite involved in WW II before Pearl Harbor. We were supplying materiel and logistic support to the allies on the lease/buy program, helping especially with the British and Russian forces. We were running weapons to Europe in convoys to keep from losing any more goods to U-boats. In short, there was little question as to our sympathies.
The attack on Pearl Harbor merely ended our overt military neutrality.
