I find it soo insulting when Americans boo the Canadian national anthem at hockey games. I'm not generalizing all AMericans, cuz most cities don't, but for the ones that do, I think it shows NO class at all. They're not only booing the country that made the game... they're booing the nationality of most of the players on their own team. Why do they persist at booing a country they know nothing about... and the same country that made the game they are paying to watch?

Talking in Particular about Game 3 in Pittsburg, and my own experiences watching the Flames in Tampa in 2004. They also chanted "USA" "USA"... without realizing they only had one American on their team.

Again, I'm NOT Generalizing, most people aren't this rude. Canadians also boo the American one (ie: Montreal vs. Boston series a while back), which I also think shows no class and is very rude.

Ok, I didn't really mean for this to start a border war. I personally think there is nothing wrong with the United States, and I have a great deal of respect for their nation. Just because some people dont' have class, it doesnt' mean that Canada is better.. that realy bothers me, because it shows my fellow countrymen are also ignorant idiots.

Yes. As said yesterday, I do realize most of this started by Montreal booing The American anthem. That is not acceptable.
Vancouver never booed the American anthem, but rather Team USA's junior team when Jack Johnson gave a vicious elbow to one of our boys.
And, no Calgary has NEVER booed the American anthem. Half of Calgary is composed of ex-pats in the oil biz.

Why do you think Edmonton fans cheered the crap out of the American anthem last year against San Jose? I remember when Montreal fans did the same thing a few years ago. Calgary, yep. Even Toronto fans...diddo. It just goes to show that Canadians have more class than people south of the border.
Scratch that, it just goes to show that most (hard to say "some" with an arena full of people) Americans are classless compared to the rest of the world.

It does not make any sense to most. Montreal sure did it last year every playoff game still wrong but in pittsbnurg maybe a couple rude fans but not many were booing the anthem I was there both games and was not really happening not sure where that got started I even watched on home tivo later the next day after I heard that it happened and could not hear from tv either. But it will happen all over a few morons all over look what people do to ther own not just another country.
BUT MOST OF ALL TAKE MOMENT FOR ALL VT. FAMILIES AND STUDENTS AND PRAY FOR ALL!!!

Hey bro,
I am a canadian myself, now live in Tampa. And I actually only made it to one of the stanley cup games, and I dont remember the USA being chanted. I would have been extremely offended I know that. But believe me, if the people here did in fact boo, or chant USA, it was an isolated incident. The people here (and in most cities) are terribly nice, and have respect for Canada.
I do have a question for u tho, did they ever boo for the US anthem in Calgary?
But again dont get the wrong idea.

I live in Pittsburgh, and I love hockey. I wasn't at the game you're talking about, but I watched on tv. It was totally classless for some people to boo the Anthem. Having been to Canada, I have respect for the country. Not saying that others don't, but it seems they're mistaking pride in your country for complete rudeness. Of course, Americans aren't alone in this, because it's happened in Toronto and Montreal before too. There is no simple solution, because there will always be those few in every 10,000 that make everyone else look like *******. It's one thing to have pride in your own country, but it's another thing to disrespect someone else's.

Any person who boos the national anthem of an ally is an idiot. Unfortunately, there are idiots on both sides of the border. I don't care for these kinds of people one bit. They are booing the national anthem as if it were the opposing team's fight song or something.
I remember singing along to "O Canada" in Madison Square Garden in 1994 during the Stanley Cup Finals, before games 1, 2, 5, and 7! (Actually, most of the fans in the Garden showed more reverence toward "O Canada" than toward "The Star Spangled Banner" which too many of them drowned out with "Lets Go Rangers" chants--another thing I don't find very classy either.) I did a lot of "Lets Go Rangers" chants too, during warmups, during the game, actually anytime except during the anthems!

Unfortunately its not the first time nor will it be the last. In 2002 Bos/Mon series, the montreal fans were obnoxious to the point that greats like Lefleur, Gilmor, and others recorded public announcements that were played on the jumbo during warm-ups to respect both anthems. I'm sure it happened way before that and will continue in the future. Its not as though US fans started this horrible new trend, and Canadian fans are above doing it. Its ugly on both sides and really pointless nowadays seeing as the team you are rooting for and against is made up of players from so many other countries anyway.

I don't think it's necessarily booing the song, but moreso booing the team played against. Like in the Pittsburgh case...I think it was just fans booing the Senators in general, not the anthem. I'll bet if you look around the arena, you'll find plenty of us singing along with the Canadian Anthem...I even do when in the kitchen getting something to eat or drink and it's on my tv...same thing with our National Anthem. It's fun...
There are jagoffs all over the world...people piss people off...that's kinda how the world works...(and people are REALLY good at doing that on here)
Oh, and on a side note - I'm SOOOO tired of the whole American vs. Canadian, Yankee vs. Canuck thing. We wonder why there is such disrespect and yet we are so discriminatory against each other - even on a stupid internet forum...

That is disrespectful. Canada could easily do it to the American Anthem, but do they, of course not. I don't really want to hear how the Nashville Predators are rude, hicks, thugs, rednecks, etc. The fans of the Predators sing along with the Canadian National Anthem. We have respect for others, and their teams.
I am just in awe. How could someone be so, I don't even know if there is a word for this kind of behavior. Sad, very sad.
I am terribly sorry to hear that.

darling, people who do this are class less they are ignorant and clueless. I guess the only thing i can say is for you to be proud when ever you Anthem is playing/sung and show respect when others are playing/sung! Maybe some one will catch on and understand then underlining meaning why the Anthems are sung!!! As an American I'm embarrassed of people from my country that would do that to ANY country, that's rude, tactless, class less and just wrong!!!! People need to grow up!!! So carry on buddy! I understand you concerns but some people are so immature that they will never change and they think what they are doing is cool, when in fact it isn't!!!
LET'S PLAY HOCKEY!!!!!!!!!!
