Just not in breeding condition is all. If you have only had him two weeks he is still unsure of his territory and probably isn;t over the rough treatment of shipping to the store etc just yet. Keep his water clean and warm and him well fed and when he gets comfortable he'll blow a nest.

If he was blowing bubbles 2 weeks ago but now isn't, the tank conditions are probablly not good. Male bettas will build a bubblenest when the water quality is good and clean, when there isn't a draft (which will destroy their bubbles), if they are warm (80F degrees), and when they are healthy. Also, if their nests are continually being popped they tend to stop building them after a while. And as a male betta gets older without any signs of females to possible mate with, they usually often quit building a bubblenest. Young males will build bubblenest often because they are learning how to and trying to impress everyone with their need to breed.

new surroundings, rough shipping, and sitting in a store surrounded by other males probably has him a little shook up. give him a little more time to adjust.
although, if you don't already you may want to consider a heated and filtered tank of at least 2.5 gallons with a few silk plants. keep the temp around 80°F. bettas are torpical fish, so they like warm water, and getting a filter will make your job easier because you won't need to do full water changes. this is an almost guaranteed way to get a betta happy enough to make a bubble nest :)

He might not be happy, or he might not feel like it. I've had over 10 bettas in the past 5 years, and not all of them have built bubble nests. I've had my current betta for about 2 years, and he's never even tried to build a nest. Give your betta time; he might be very young, or maybe he's still adjusting to his new environment.

not all male bettas blow bubbles. some need to be near females to get them to do it - others dont at all.
dont worry about it.
and to that "marine biologist" - yes, male bettas do blow bubbles - its called a bubble nest, and its used for breeding.
