Hmm.....people get married for all kinds of reasons. For money, for citizenship, for security, for companionship, for housing, to keep someone, to have kids....there are lots of reasons.....none of them ususally the right ones. And people that don't marry for the right reasons, don't stay married.
People SHOULD get married because they love the other person and want to spend the rest of their life with them, no matter how hard it gets and no matter what happens.
The relationship gets better when it's NOT 50/50 but instead it's 100/100. When both people give 100% to a marriage, it is bound to thrive.
But when people start holding back because their feelings get hurt or because they don't "feel" the same way, that when the relationship gets worse.
Couples need to go into a marriage with all their expectations out on the table. Conflict comes up when each person has an idea of what marriage is going to be like but doesn't tell their spouse. That sets their partner up to fail and sets them up to be hurt. And ultimately, sets the marriage up to fail.

For people who are immature, marriage represents commitment and responsibility, which is for the mature. It's part of growing up and it gives children, the products of the relationship, legitmacy.
If you are already past maturity, ie, divorced or never married in the late 40s on up, marriage can make things worse, at least for the man.

For some people, it makes things worse.
When I got married, nothing changed. We didn't ''pretend'' to be anything we weren't, and people thought we were married beforehand.
