I have 2 red ear sliders (about 3 years old each) and i just fed them 10 rosy red minnows i bought earlier at petco for a dollar (great price i think).....

well its been about 10 minutes since i put the feeders in....this is the first time i've fed them feeders....and the turtles have not even gone near the fishes!

is this shockingly strange or what?

yep its been an hour now and the 2 turtles are happily away from the rosy reds and seem to have no interest at all eating them and the rosy reds are swimming in groups.

maybe the beginning of a happy relationship? lol

Not that strange - especially if this is the first time you've fed feeders to them.

Once the curiosity of the new things in the tank wears off, your RES will probably give them a taste. Of course you can never predict with animals. I had a spiny softshell that made friends with one of his feeders and they coexisted happily. The fish could reach food in the places where the turtle couldn't, so it kept the tank cleaner, too.

How long have you had these turtles? If this is the first time that they have ever been given feeder fish, they may not know what to do with them. It took my turtle about two weeks before he actually started showing enough interest in his feeder guppies to try and go after them. After that, he loved them! I almost couldn't keep enough of them in the tank! I just bought a whole bunch of them, and they began breeding, and living long enough to reproduce. They were his favorite enrichment item.

Just give them some time, I am sure they will love them!

Not really. They will most likely eat them when the lights are off and the tank is dark. It is much easier for them to catch the fish then. The fish are too fast for them in the light.

its normal.

Either this is the first time you have fed them to your turtles, or the turtles just arent hungry.

leave them there - they wont hurt the tank and the turtles will notice them eventually.

Maybe they smell bad... are you trying to feed the fish the minnows, or are they supposed to be pets.
