What is the book/movie called where a docter on an island turns people or animals into beasts, and a combination of the two? Is it any good?

Hey, that's called the Island of Dr. Morreau and it's creepy.
The novel is actually riveting since the author wanted to discuss the ethics of transforming humans into sumthing-else (thing genetic re-engineering).. the movie is a little off though (of course, pushed by the need to commercialize it and render it acceptable to the populace).
I suggest you read the book first. ;p

by H. G. Wells, a classic, since nobody mentioned the author.
I'd still call it a classic just for being such an early example of bio-engineering. It's influence can be seen from the Pulp Age works of Cordwainer Smith to the relatively recent television series Dark Angel.
plus, I think it's pretty much the first modern story of cat/woman beastiality. So even if the last movie version of this is a little lame, you can still go rent Cat People, with Nastassja Kinski.

The Island of Doctor Moreau. I think there are at least 3 movies versions. I have seen one (the most recent I think) which had Val Kilmer in it. It was among the worst movies I've ever seen.

I know the movie had Marlin Brando in it. I think it was called the Island of Dr. Who. If you check out his movies then you will find what book it came from.
