black and white movie about a widow who moves herself and her daughter to a house on the ocean. it is haunted by the sea captian who built it. in order to make enough money to live on she writes his life story and gets it published in a time when women were not supposed to do that kind of thing. she falls in love with the gost but he stops letting her see him so that she can get on with her life. then when she dies he comes to get her.
