That is what is known as a "gotcha." I totally agree that this is a mean-spirited overly draconian system, but they have you dead to rights and technically, you are liable for whatever monetary penalty is assessed for running a stop sign. It is particularly spurious and unjust when you consider most of us do tend to roll through a stop if there is no cross-traffic. In my state it is known as a "California stop." (I'm in California, btw.) Your best bet is to be very eloquent in front of the hearing judge and stress the "interest of justice" concept, given that you have a (presumably) clean driving record and you feel a bit singled out and that you respectfully plead to the Court that Your Honor exercise some judicial discretion in assessing the fine (and promise to never do it again) and submit to the "mercy of the Court." If the judge is kindly, you may really luck out, especially if you point out that you "have no money." In the alternative, request that the Court grant your plea to make installment payments. The Court pretty much has to grant that request and also has to base it on what you can afford as a monthly payment. Good luck!

Since the sign says stop, that means you have to come to a complete stop, check to see if there is any traffic coming through the intersection and then proceed through the intersection once you are sure that you have the right of way and there are no other cars proceeding through.

You had better start saving money, you cannot get out of the ticket, and you are going to be lucky that you do not get points against your license.

Your car insurance may go up also, it generally does when you get ticketed for unsafe driving.

You could also be required to take a safe driving course.

I do not know how long you have been driving, but you had better become more responsible very quickly, or you will not have a license much longer.

Vehicles must come to a FULL stop at a stop sign, not slow and roll. No way out of this one, if you have no money go to court and
ask to make payments (it will cost you more that the initial $124 fine though)

Absolutely you can get out of it. Just show the judge a copy of the ordinance that says "You must come to a full stop at a stop sign, except when you have looked both ways and there is no one coming." and he will dismiss the ticket for you.

If the ordinance doesn't say that, be prepared to pay out $124 and get some points on your license for a moving violation.

The sign does not say "please think about stopping if you see a car, but otherwise boot it". The sign says STOP. People get killed or injured every year because they think they do not have to stop for signs or red lights. The argument that you didn't see a car doesn't wash, you disobeyed the law. You cannot get out of it. You can throw yourself upon the mercy of the court, plead stupidity, say you have learned your lesson, and that may mitigate the charge.

Sorry about your luck, but you better be ready to shell out some money. If you go to court, you may get lucky and get traffic school. That will save you a bunch of money on your insurance. This is a moving violation, so by going to traffic school they won't report it to your insurance company. You'll still have to pay the court costs and the cost for traffic school, but it is worth to you. good luck.

Squeal Tires On Pavement means STOP!!! You didn't - you got nailed! Sorry, pal, if you do the crime, you've gotta do the time! I'd suggest you beg or borrow the $ 124 from somewhere, because if you don't the Judge is going to nail you for sure. You may be looking at suspension of license, community service (if you're lucky) or possibly even jail time!

if you didn't come to a complete stop, and then look both ways then yes it is a rolling stop and no there is no way to get out of it. you can make payment arrangements, go down to the court house and ask them how can you make arrangements if they allow that where you live, i jnow they did it for me.

Stop sign means a full 3 second stop, regardless of whether there is traffic or not. You have nothing to lose by going to court, at worst you will have to pay the full fine at best they will reduce it.

It was a "Stop" sign, not a "Slow Down" sign. Go to them and ask about making payments. Most of the time they will work with you.
