I'm 15 and this is ruining my life! I wish so badly that I could afford braces. After my father died we were left with no health insurance at all and everyone at school says "hey when are you getting yours?" and I keep saying next summer. I can't smile with my teeth and will not smile! Its so embarrassing, I hate my teeth I feel as though as soon as I open my mouth people judge me! You should see how crooked my teeth are, people call me hill billy, squirell, chipmunk, and rabbit. It hurts so bad, even the monthly payments are too much for my mother who is handling 4 kids without a husband!

Well, show people who you really are! Once you show them what a great person you are, if they are worth knowing they will look past your physical appearance. Looks aren't everything.

Sorry to hear about you Dad passing away. I am sure that your Mom is doing the absolute best that she can, taking care of four children on her own.
Have your Mom check with the area colleges and see if there is a dental program, where students are trained to be dentists and oral surgeons. A lot of dental colleges and programs will offer all types of dental work, including braces at a very reasonable rate.
I am sorry that your classmates are mean to you, until you can afford to get some dental work done, try and keep your teeth and gums really clean and as attractive as possible. If you are a good-hearted person, and I am sure that you are; that is much more important than how you look.
Since you are fifteen you could even research local dentists to see if any would be willing to take smaller payments due to your situation. I do not know if your Mom gets any assistance from Social Services or not, but that would be another place to check, they may be able to find a dentist that would be reasonable.
Good luck, I wish you well. Keep a smile in your heart, and remember your Dad is watching over you from heaven.

Is the fact that your teeth are crooked really ruining your life?
Do you have any other ailments? Can you walk? See? Hear?
Are you hungry? Do you live in a shack with no running water or electricity? Are you being abused?
Would you judge anyone because their teeth were crooked? NO! But you think other people are that shallow. You are focussing on one aspect of yourself and blowing it up out of all proportion. You need to look at the bigger picture, do you think all the people who call you hillbilly will love you if you had straight teeth and would you want people like that to be your friends?
Think of how all your whining must be affecting your mother. She probably feels guilty enough that she can't give you the luxuries in life without you making it worse
Now next time someone asks youwhen you are gettng braces either tell them the truth and they will feel like crap or act shocked and make out like you thought your teeth were perfect

Start looking for part time work. You might not be old enough for a work permit yet, but you can still make cash mowing lawns, watching children, washing drives, etc... It will take some time, but most things worth having take time. It's rough that you'll have to go earn them for yourself, but the rest of your life you'll be able to look at your smile and say "I did that."
Most kids would blow the money on a car or crack, but your teeth will be with you for life. It sounds harsh and it's not the answer I'd have wanted to hear as a kid, but you have to work for what you get in life.
Oh, and if it helps at all most of those kids will end up feeling pretty small about the kind of things they're saying now. It'll take them years, but unless they're complete morons, they'll eventually grow up. Yeah I know it doesn't help, but feeling morally superior will give you a nice little glow.

Awww. I'm sorry, hun. You might want to get your Mom to check for low-income places that could cut you some slack on the prices, overall of the braces, or on the monthly payments. As for the bullies that are taunting you--hold your head up high, don't let them bring you down. All that's wrong with you is your teeth (don't mean that to sound bad), but, obviously they have other MAJOR problems.

I feel really bad for you. Like seriously. People shouldn't judge you because of your teeth. I feel so sad for you. You'll probably have to wait untill you live on your own and can afford them. I know, it sucks. Your mom's doing a best as she can, and it's super hard with her husband gone. Hang in there hun. Good luck!
