I know in our town all of us parents get a note from the local school letting us know that there is one living in town and they even give the address. The school gets the information from the local police department. We have a very small community and it is a wonderful system. The police department gets the information because these people were charged and/or found guilty of committing a sexual crime against an underaged person. Needless to say, they do not live here for very long---- for some reason or another they end up moving to a bigger city or somewhere where the community is not sooo tightly knit.. :-) Oh, well--- don't want them hear anyways...

I really dont know , but there should be a law about this , they need to take fingerprints , records of their whereabouts , in order to protect our children, the sad part is this ; most sexual offenders are NOT registered! And a lot are known to the child! Never trust a young child with any one , man especially alone or to sleep with them! Be careful of young men , who have no girlfriend and is always around your 5 yr old boy , or willing to baby sit or go take the child to play ! Hugs.

It depends. If they are on probation or parole, it is the job of their probation or parole officer. Otherwise, there is usually a supervising officer or unit assigned to that duty (among others). Quite frankly, it is not a priority.

The state government that runs the registry. And they get their probation violated, or commit a new offense that can land them in jail.
