They were created for the soul purpose, so that when I was out ramming into other cars, I would know which ones had babies in them, so i could hit them, then eat the babies. :)

Yeah, really. Fads, and people will buy into, and buy anything. These signs were popular around the time the Garfield cat with the suction cup paws were popular. Then people got creative with the cat and stuck him slammed between the trunk lid or the hood. They got creative with the signs too, but I forget what manner of stuff was alleged to be on board. Still, it's a pretty lame mindset that thinks to advertise that just because a baby is on board (which in 99.9% of the cases it wasn't) that that would be a protection for from the idiot drivers on the road. I liked the ones that took the opposite approach. For example, the signs that said "Hit me, I need the money."

Yeah that's right, because we often choose what vehicle to be involved in an accident with hey. I won't be using those signs when I have kids. Shouldn't people take the same care around all cars, not just those cars containing people under a certain age?

GOOD POINT! LOL!
I guess the sign is there for all those stupid people that are so annoying! Like when u r driving they are always on ur tail! Or they try to SQUEEZE right in front of you from the other lane.
Or those drivers that are just so darn inpatient!
Or even those who veer around u and speed off like there is a fire or something and then a couple of yards later they stop because of a red light.
HOLD UR HORSES! geez. LOL!
Don't u just hate that?
:)

I was thinking about that very thing just the other day!!
Yeah...what gives?
"Oh, honey, turn the wheel and hit *THAT OTHER CAR* that doesn't have a baby in it!!
Ha!
The best parody of it was the little yellow diamond sign with the words: "Baby I'm Bored" ....... I always wanted to find one of those!

The sign is there as an attempt to plead with inconsiderate people like you and some of the others who have answered this question to please use some caution for the sake of the infants.
it's sad that they have to put up sign's to make these requests in such a reckless irresponsible society and just as sad that no one here seems to realize or respect the purpose.
Kill the infants too in our care free, risk all even for everyone else society.

well it might be just like those "my kid is an honor student" bumper stickers... people are just proud and happy they have kids and show off a little
or maybe some people think if there is a serious accident it would alert police and paramedics at the scene there's a baby somewhere in the crumpled metal heap, but gawsh who would want to think about something awful like that?
Is gawsh a word?

Before it was a big joke it was meant to alert first responders that a child was in the car. Babies can get thrown around during an accident and missed by rescuers. Please always use a car seat.

I believe it was my own personal bullseye. They typically seem to be the worst drivers. You would think having the sign in their car would be a reminder almost as much as the kid they are toting around that they should drive better.
