Few reasons, both of which are because our society is built on a male-dominant structure.
1) With a girl-girl relationship, a guy can imagine placing himself in the middle and loving it. With a guy-guy relationship, that fantasy is lost.
2) We are taught that women are creatures of beauty and grace. We are taught that men are creatures of muscle and grime. Everyone can appreciate beauty and grace. That women ever find muscle and grime attractive is amazing to me.
3) Finally, women are seen as lower than men. Let me explain this one...
A man hunts for a woman, finds her, romances her, and wins her love. Sound "normal"?
If a woman places herself in the position of the man (the hunter), she is elevating herself.
If a man places himself in the position of the woman (being hunted), he is demoting himself.
Due to our male = dominant society, these are held to be true...even if only at a subconscious level.

I hardly know what to say to that diatribe. Have you met Smiley? I just answered two of her questions and I think you'd get along just fine. I wonder if you might be more comfortable living in a society elsewhere on the earth that may be a bit more traditional? I believe there are still some less industrialized places left, where gender roles are still, by and large, more like the 1900s. Understand I don't necessarily disagree with your feelings about the bedroom being so far into the ballroom. I do however fear for your ultimate sanity if you choose to become so much of a misanthrope that you lock yourself away, ala Scrooge. Seems a change of abode might be your best option. It's quiet in the north country areas, and in the midwest. If you are in a city.. get thee to a country spot, young man :) Ever consider setting up a blog page? If you are going to write stream of consciousness posts, you might as well do so where more people may notice you.

I think what you're really getting at is why are men usually okay with lesbianism but are less comfortable with homosexuality.
Speaking only for myself, I appreciate the aesthetic of the female form. To me, a man's body just isn't attractive. But that's me and I'm straight. I do not, however, have any problem with men being attracted to men.
Another part of the equation is simple biology. Men are biologically built to "spread their seed" and other men are competition. The idea of a man having sex with your wife or girlfriend may be troubling because, from a biological perspective HE may be laying claim to your wife/girlfriend's womb. Sounds pretty basic and gross, but that IS human biology.
However, a woman having sex with your wife or girlfriend is not, from a biological perspective, threatening.
Just my two cents. Remember, Freud theorized that we are all bisexual; it's just a matter of degrees to which we are more gay or straight.

In an homosexual relationship, the male is not the dominant (stronger) of the couple. It often implies that one of the two men is in a "submissive" position, which is counter to what most societies' view of men, as being the "aggressor" and the one giving, not receive the "penetration". . .

Because in this straight male dominated society gay women aren't looked at as lesbians. They're seen as sex objects.

its society dear. just like how u might hear mostly of a threesome wit 2 grls and a guy. they tink lesbians are sexier cus of the softness and such. 2 men = tough and crusty i guess and less pleasurable to the heterosexual eyeof which i tink more populates the earth i guess. not that i approve of any of such behaviour

yeah! it sucks. but i think, it's all about the roles associated with men. they should be strong and all sorts of social crap. gay men can also be strong! they can protect their family! they can do what straight men do.

few are threatened by the idea of lesbians.
many straight people automatically associate gay men with anal sex, which triggers an "Ewww!" factor.
