They need to be a few months old before they are large enough not to be eaten. Go more by size than age though. As long as they are too large for the other fish to eat they will be fine.

You have to keep them away from larger fish until they are about 2 months old,about 1/2 grown. It would be better to keep them in a tank of their own,not a little nursery ,after about 2 weeks.

normally people say larger than the other's mouths, but you may not want to do that because they can get picked on and eaten. release only when they are 2-4mm larger than the size of the adluts if the adults did'nt have tails.( width and height normally don't matter. )
patience really matters.

basically until they are too big to fit in the mouths of the other fish in your tank. generally all fish will eat any other fish (including their young) if they are small enough to fit in their mouth

about 1 two two months. i breed guppies too and they grow fast.
