I used to have lots of pets, before I became disabled and had to very sadly re home many of them, but each had its name.

I used themes. at present i have my Sable cavies and Marten Sable cavies (I created the Marten Sable cavy (guinea pig) myself) and re created from scratch the Sable and have also other colour forms.

the Sable has the prefix Java, which according to a book I have means 'brown' which is basically what colour the sable is. they then have their personnel name so we might have Java Ivy, Java dove, Java shadow and so on, babies from these might get a double name, so Java Dove and one male called Java Biloba ended up getting called Java Biloba Dove, so I knew who her parents where.. doesnt' always work if i keep several from a litter and then pair the parents again for another litter.

The Marten Sable has a the sable colouring with a white belly, white spots by the ears and a white circle around each eye.
So they are 'Java' from the sable 'moon' (for sows) 'Luna' (for the boars) cause of the white eye circles and then their name, so my first Marten Sable was Called Java Moon light shadow and my first boar who was 6 years old in jan07 having been born on the day of a Luna eclipse became Java Luna Eclipse.

other breeds of cavy (guinea pig) had other names, my Satin aby (rosette coated) where named after Towns and Cities, so we had Chester, Orlando, Brecon (from Wales).

3 baby rabbits I hand reared from 5 days old, cause a loud firework had been let off right outside where they lived and their mother left her babies, they were all fully weaned and out of danger by Christmas so got the names of Tinsel, Icicle and Bauble!

I have used naming books for ideas, but also the thesaurus looking up alternatives for colours, I found the name Ariana in the white names section and also Fenella which means 'white shouldered one' she was a dark g pig that had 3 white markings on her shoulders.

but I think its great your offering to help people name their pets. have helped people in the past, someone wanted a name like snowball or snowy for their white cat, she was a pretty cat and ended up getting the name of Snowflake Crystals.

I had a white curly coated long haired cavy that as a baby reminded me of a strange mineral called Okenite, which is white and like fur to touch, so he was called Woolley Okenite
the woolley came from a place in the UK we passed as I was deciding a name for this new pet.

I find myself that offering several names, people don't always pick the one you suggested, but it gets them thinking about something related and they come up with a name which they feel really suits said pet, so don't be too upset if you suggest Peanut for their cat and they think, umm Peanut, almond, hazel nut, oh hazel tree arrh Willow tree, we'll call the cat Willow..

best of luck

(-: It's really easy to find people with pets to name. Look for the "search for questions" box and put in some keywords like "pet names". Then, hit the advanced search so you can find just the open questions. I bet you find half a dozen people who need pet name help. I just answered one where a lady wanted names for her white and calico cats.

It's a lot of fun imagining new names for pets, isn't it?

If you give an animal a name then you have to adopt it. I worked at a pet store and that was the rule. Because sometimes if you meet a certain pet (dog, bird, or otherwise) it just seems to name itself. I mean there is a name that just seems to fit.

I always intend to make a list of all names I'd like for pets, and keep it for future reference.

Very ingenious.

Sure. I just got two parakeets- not sure if they are male or female though. One is light blue with white and grey wings (reminds me of a cloudy sky) and the other one is a aqua color with purple spots on its cheek. We're trying to come up with clever "couple" names for them. Thanks.
