To those who answered earlier, I think the questioner was asking who was the first customer to use Toll Free Service, not who was the first telephone company to offer it. Since it was first introduced in 1969, that would have been AT&T that offered it.

I can't verify this but I believe that Sheraton Hotels was the first company to obtain a toll-free number, with its 800-325-3535 number.
