an incorrect cut key can cause this as will a loaded steering wheel lock. next time it locks, try moving the wheel a little and see if that helps. just dont try to go too far, you are just trying to release the tension on the steering lock mechanism

Try turning the steering wheel a little bit back and forth when you insert the key and it will not turn... Some cars have some steering wheel lock on it. I had that happen to me sometimes and I found that by not turning the steering wheel (thus locking it) when I turn off the car off prevents that.

before you put the key in - try this just a little spray of wd-40 in ignition , then insert key - while trying to turn the key wiggle the steering wheel and the ignition cylinder should free up.

There are a few possibilities one is there could be tension on the steering wheel lock, two your key copy could have been cut improperly,or three the lock cylinder could be worn out and the tumblers are not engaged properly.

Make sure your steering wheel is not locked in position because this will make turning the key very difficult....
