Because the alcohol and tobacco industry pump money into the government so that it can continue to be that way.

One simple reason: it's not taxed.
You and I are on the same page as far as believing that it's less harmful than tobacco and alcohol. In my opinion if marijuana is to remain illegal then tobacco and alcohol should be illegal to. For the longest time alcohol was illegal until the government found a way to tax it.....

My best guess would be there is no money in it for the government or major companies. Many people can easily grow it where as some liquors are aged and things like beer take recipes and a process. Tobacco,i might be wring but, it is grown on farms and it is a crop. Takes work to grow it and it is harder to grow than marijuana. It is all stupid. We can drink till are liver is dead, smoke till our lungs give out, but no marijuana. I believe it should be our right to decide what we put in our body. I dont believe in driving while high or drunk or doing it in public. I think,as long as your are in your home, you should be able to do it. That is just my opinion.

The government does not think they can control it enough to regulate it and get maximum tax revenues from it. This being because individuals can grow it in their yards if it was legal and they could not tax that plant. It would have to go through a retail outlet to be taxed. I cannot quite agree with this line of reasoning simply because I do not see cigarette smokers planting their own tobacco even with cigarettes as high as 4 dollars a pack.

Because the goverment hasn't figured out a way to tax it if anybody could grow it in their back yard. They want their cut. If it's illegal, it has a high value, and all those dealers the DEA and the cops bust, they may have a nice supply of cash on hand. They may burn the plants but I assure you they don't burn the Benjamins.

Edit: "Makes you a danger to other?" Boy, that's pretty ignorant. Sorry, but if that's what some people think, that's really pathetic. Danger to others. Give me a break.

It is illegal because the alcohol lobbies pay hundreds of millions of dollars to keep it that way. Did you know Anheiser-Busch (the company that makes Bud, etc) was instrumental in making marijuana illegal in the first place?

The origions of the illegality of the plant started when mexicans started coming into america, and the US government outlawed it to try to keep out the mexicans. From there, it has been blown out of proportion into something its not, and people are scared to legalize it.
Thats pretty much it in a nutshell.
oh PS
i dont use it
i just dont see the big deal

The only valid reason I can think of is that somewhere down the line it was classified as a controlled substance. Until that designation is removed, it will continue to be illegal.
