The A's and Angels have built up a recent rivalry, although it is not long-standing and nothing like the historic rivalries you mention.
The A's and Angels always seem to play in one run games and up until the last 2 days (the A's beat the Angels twice) the previous101 games were split 51-50 in Oakland's favor. 6 of the last 7 Western Division Championships have gone to one of these 2 teams, 4 to the A's, 2 the the Angels.
Do you remember last year when Jason Kendall took out John Lackey? That seemed to stir up some emotions for several games.

I don't think the Angels have a rival (or haven't been around long enough) that would match the intensity of Red Sox and Yankees or Dodgers and Giants. At the moment, I would give it to the Athletics since these are pretty much the two teams battling for the West, but isn't anywhere close to those aforementioned rivalries.

I would say the A's would be the biggest rival here, but its not a huge one. Nothing compared to Dodgers-Giants, Sox-Yankees, or Cub-Cards. The teams just haven't been competing head to head long enough to establish that kind of rivalry. They have a little thing going with the Rangers right now too, because of the hit batters and stuff, but I don't think it will become a real rivalry anymore than most division opponents.

was watching the a's vs. angels last week when they were in anaheim and while typically the biggest rivals are cross town, i.e. giants and a's, the angels and dodgers are not nearly as exciting as a's vs. angels. they said that there was such a tense rivalry between the two teams. every game comes to the bottom of the last inning, usually by one run, and they take the season to the wire as well and almost to the last day.
there is so much bad blood between the two teams as well. this year the teams got warnings from the umpires by the middle of the first game. carry over from last year when players kept getting hit by pitches.

I think the Oakland-Angels rivalry could end up being very interesting about ten years down the road. It always seems like their games in September are for division titles or wild cards, and that will probably never really change because they are in the four team division.

Oakland, a rival is always from the same division. No this does not rival any of those rivalries. And you forgot about the best rivalry the Cards and Cubs.

Oakland and Seattle, no comparison to Yanks vs Red Sox though.
