Don't force yourself to wear tampons hun. If you got your period would you not go to school or work? No. Just deal with it while your on. Pads with the wings would help best since you'll be moving around they can secure to your undies so there's no major movement. Voila.

You're right, it is pretty hard to miss a dance class. But you should be fine using pads with hip hop. I do ballet, and there is no hiding anything in a leotard and pink tights. But I still wear pads actually because I found a brand that is thin enough so that you can't see it. For hip hop, you're wearing more forgiving clothing anyway, so you can definitely still use pads. For ballet sometimes we are allowed to wear booty shorts over our leotards, so that is extra safe. Worst case, someone finds out you are wearing a pad, and it is not a big deal.

Don't skip when you're on your period, I'd say, unless you are in a lot of pain. Dancing definitely takes your mind off of cramps or whatever else.

I say, find a more discreet pad and start dancin'!

Tampons are a hard thing to get used to, but once you figure things out you won't want to use pads quite as often (or at least most of my friends and myself don't).
Pads let the menstral blood drip & leave an odor. They're great for when you're just starting, but when you want to do something (like dance) you should feel free to do it.
Don't let this hold you back. Exercising is actually good for you, especially at that time of the month because it can help prevent cramps.
If it's Toxic Shock Syndrome that you're worried about, you shouldn't panic over it. Just change your tampon regullarly and wear the appropriate size.
Being a dancer is a big job, and I wish you all the best!

ok look, it happens to almost every woman under the age of 55 on the planet so don't let it get in your way, just prepare for it. don't put your life on hold just because of something that happens once a month. you can still go to dance class and wear towels. what i used to do when i went to dancing was i'd wear an extra pair of underpants under my leotard so that the wings wouldn't show. if you wear a catsuit to dance class you don't really have a problem, just make sure you change before class starts cos otherwise you could have a stain peeping through

Why can't you wear pads in dance? Well, tampons really aren't that bad. Just keep practicing. I started wearing them pretty early on and I still wear small pads just in case. It's a personal decision to wear them though and if you don't feel comfortable once you do it right, then they aren't for you or they aren't for you yet. Good luck in dance. You aren't the first one who had this "dilemma".

hey... im 16, and i've been dancing for about 7 consecutive years now so i def. know where you are coming from... but yes, you will definitely want to try out tampons... you can go to practice and use pads, not a problem, but when it gets to recital/preformance/ or competitions (if you choose to compete) you are gonna have to use them if necessary. skipping dance is a major setback, not only is it tough on you, but it is also tough on the other people in your class. hope this helped.

Why can't you dance wearing a pad? You baggy clothes so it's not like anyone can tell. Missing a class every month means you'll miss lots and make you look lazy.

i do ballet sometimes just using a pad, but i have been lucky enough that i havent had to do ballet on one of my starting/heavier days. I guess it just depends, im not ready to use tamps so im not going to so i think that is what you should do, and if you do end up having one of your heavier days during class (I started one time during the middle of dance jazz) take it easy.

Don't skip, that's not smart at all. 1)like you said, you won't learn the dance and 2) you're workout won't be regular.

I know pads aren't as comfortable, but it is possible to dance in them for awhile. You're period doesn't last that long, so you can tolerate it every month or so.
