Don't go with the pluses unless you have a heavy flow. Removing a dry tampon is painful! Go and buy the "slim", "light", or "teen" versions

I find the best way to put in a tampon is while sitting on the toilet. There should be a diagram in the packet. There will be a nubbly part to gripon the tampon. Grip that with two fingers (First and middle?), and insert it into your vagina until your fingers are touching the outer edge of your vagina. Keep holding it, and push in the plunger. If it's painful, try putting a bit of water-based lubricant like KY Jelly on the end. The plunger and the outer casing will be inyour hand, and the tampon will be in your vagina.

Don't worry! The *only* way you can mess up inserting a tampon is by not pushing it in far enough. If you do, just push on the end until your labia close over it. When it's in correctly... they say you can't feel it, which is not entirely true. You can feel it if you think about it, but it's subtle and does not impact your life. Change it out at most every eight hours, or whenever it gets full (when it gets full, it will try to work its way out of your vagina when you urinate, and you will see significant blood when you wipe).

Start with a smaller size. Wear a pad the first day and if the tampon leaks you won't be embarrassed and you will know to move up a tampon size. Use tampons with a smooth plastic applicator, instead of the cardboard ones. They are easier to insert for a beginner.

Wash your hands. Unwrap the tampon. Hold where there is a spot for your fingers, at the opposite end from the curved part. Sit on the toilet or squat a bit or put one foot up on the toilet, whatever is most comfortable for you. RELAX. Insert the tampon into your vagina all the way until your fingers at the end of the applicator touch your body. There is a muscle at the end of your vagina and if the tampon isn't all the way in beyond that muscle, it will feel uncomfortable. When the applicator is all the way in, push the plunger all the way. Remove the applicator and throw it away in the trash. If the tampon is in correctly you won't feel it and you can continue with your day.

Good luck!

It will be easier to insert if you are relaxed. You need to buy a smaller size with low absorbancy so it won't be so dry and hard to put in.

Just sit on the toilet and put it in the opening and then very gently and slowly push it back and tilted upwards just slightly. When you meet with resistance, stop pushing. The string will be hanging out.

Best of luck!
